About Kasha Williams
Kasha Williams was first elected to the District 3 City Council seat in Longview, Texas, in May 2011. During her first term in office, she focused much of her attention toward economic development of South Longview and the Interstate 20 corridor.
The home health administrator, volunteer and cultural activist took the oath of office in May 2011, to accept the open District 3 seat to be yielded by Sidney Bell Willis, who after nine years on the council stepped aside because of term limits. Willis supported Williams’ campaign bid. The Longview native is a proud graduate of Longview ISD and Prairie View A&M University. She is actively involved in area organizations, non-profit groups and advisory boards. Her involvement ranges from serving as a board trustee for Longview Museum of Fine Arts and Keep Longview Beautiful to holding seats on the city’s Vision 2015 Committee, Streets Task Force and the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone. Williams believes economic development should continue to be the focus of her next term, and if reelected, will continue speaking out for improvements in District 3, specifically through infrastructure. “I am a successful Longview businesswoman seeking to make a greater impact in my community,” says Williams. “More specifically, as a resident in District 3 and someone who grew up in that district, I feel there are things I can do to help my neighbors as well as the greater Longview area.” As recorded recently in the Longview News Journal, the purchase and demolition of the old Holiday Inn hotel property by the Longview Economic Development Corporation late this past year was an emblem of progress as it began to remake a long-blighted entrance to the city. Early in 2013, the mayor created an I-20 Corridor Task Force, which studied the area and, in addition to calling for redeveloping the Holiday Inn site, recommended creating plans to guide development in the area. Williams serves as the City Council liaison to the task force. A proposed multi-million dollar hotel/conference center, which would be built south of the interstate, is in the negotiation stage. |
